The Consortium of NLUs has published the CLAT 2026 first seat allotment list today, January 7, 2026. The CLAT 2026 1st seat allotment list contains NLU-wise list of students allotted seats. As expected, NLSIU Bengaluru had the highest CLAT 2026 cutoff with general category admissions closing at 101 rank in round 1. Candidates can check the CLAT first seat allotment 2026 on the official website consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The release of the CLAT 2026 first merit list marks the official start of the CLAT 2026 admission process. Through the CLAT 2026 seat allotment list, the Consortium of National Law Universities gives admissions to students to one of the 26 participating National Law Universities (NLUs) and IIULER Goa. The process is based strictly on merit, considering the candidate's All India Rank (AIR) in the CLAT exam and the NLU preference list of candidates submitted during counselling registration.
The CLAT first allotment is often the most competitive round. It sets the opening cut-off ranks for the 2026-27 academic session. Understanding how to navigate this stage is vital. After receiving an allotment, candidates must choose between "freeze," "float," or "exit" options to secure their future. The 'freeze' option confirms acceptance of the current NLU. ‘Float' allows a candidate to accept the seat but indicates interest in being upgraded to a higher-preference NLU in further CLAT counselling rounds. Each choice has specific rules that can impact its chances of getting into a preferred NLU later.

Candidates must ensure the following documents are scanned and ready for the Consortium’s portal:
CLAT 2026 admit card and scorecard.
Educational certificates: Class 10th and 12th marksheets.
Category proof: SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD certificates, if applicable.
Domicile certificate: Mandatory for those claiming seats under state-specific quotas.
Once a seat is displayed on the dashboard, candidates must choose one of the following paths:
Freeze: Select this if the candidates are entirely satisfied with the university assigned. By freezing, they opt out of further seat upgrades and commit to that specific NLU.
Float: This is for candidates who accept the current seat but wish to be considered for a higher-preference NLU in the second or third rounds. If the candidates are not upgraded, their current seat remains secure.
Exit: If the candidates no longer wish to participate in the CLAT 2026 counselling process, choosing "Exit" will forfeit the seat and remove them from further rounds.
To hold a seat after the first allotment, candidates must pay a non-refundable confirmation fee. This fee is essential to prove the candidate's intent to join.
Confirmation fee: A mandatory payment of Rs 20,000 is required to secure the seat (this is adjusted against the final university tuition).
Counselling fee: This was already paid during registration (Rs 30,000 for General; Rs 20,000 for SC/ST).
Balance university fee: After the final rounds, the remaining tuition for the first year must be paid directly to the allotted NLU by May 2026.

Hey there,
If you mean CLAT eligibility for admission to 5-year LLB courses, there is no fixed CLAT score/rank that guarantees eligibility. You must first meet the basic Class 12 eligibility criteria, and admission is based on your CLAT rank, category, preferences, and counselling cut-offs.
