The Common Law Admission Test is the toughest exam for undergraduate law admissions in India. The CLAT 2026 exam is nearing, and students preparing for the exam must have a set target of marks as well as the NLUs they want to get into. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata, etc, require candidates to score above 95 marks. Candidates can aim for mid-tier NLUs in CLAT 2026 with a score of 85+. Also, candidates must understand that the marks required for top NLUs also depend a lot on the category of the candidates. In this article, we will dive deep into how many marks are required in CLAT 2025 for admission in each of the participating 26 NLUs.
The CLAT counselling and seat allotment process is carried out based on the ranks. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru and NALSAR Hyderabad mostly require candidates to secure ranks under 200. Ranks under 200 in CLAT 2026 are most likely to translate into 95+ marks according to last year’s difficulty level. The CLAT 2026 marks required for NLUs basically depend on the difficulty level of the exam. However, candidates can get a close idea of how many marks to score for a particular NLU through last year’s analysis. The CLAT cutoff is determined based on many factors like the number of candidates, difficulty level, availability of seats, etc. The difficulty level of the exam plays a very important role in deciding the cutoffs for different NLUs. For example, if the exam was tough in terms of difficulty level, the CLAT cutoffs for NLUs will be lower. Similarly, if the exam is fairly easy, the cutoffs will go high. Below are some of the factors that will influence the CLAT 2026 cutoffs for NLUs:
Total number of candidates who appeared in the exam
Availability of seats in participating NLUs
Reservation policy of the NLUs
Category-wise number of candidates
