The All India Bar Examination is one of the most competitive examinations in the legal field in India. Any law graduate who wants to become an advocate in India has to appear for the All India Bar Exam. This aspect of the examination makes it popular, and lakhs of candidates register and appear for it every year. In this article, find out how many candidates appear in AIBE based on the available last year's trend.
As per the AIBE 20 eligibility criteria, BCI has allowed final-year law students to appear for the exam. Candidates who have not registered with a State Bar Council were also allowed to appear for AIBE 20. These relaxations are expected to significantly increase the number of candidates who appeared for AIBE 20 compared to last year.
Past trends suggest that a total of 2,29,843 candidates have appeared for the AIBE 19 exam. The high number of candidates appearing for AIBE is for the reason that it is the only exam through which law graduates can become advocates and practise law in India. The relaxed AIBE eligibility norms can also play a hand at increasing the number of candidates who will appear for AIBE 20.
AIBE is a mandatory exam for law graduates who obtained their degree from 2009-10 onwards if they want to represent clients in a court of law.
The table given below provides the data for the number of candidates who appeared in the previous session. Around 2.35 lakhs candidates had appeared in AIBE 19.
| Particulars | Statistics |
Number of registered candidates | 2,36,403 |
Number of candidates who appeared for the exam | 2,29,843 |
Number of candidates passed | 1,77,592 |
| Number of candidates failed | 52,251 |
| AIBE 19 pass percentage | 77.27% |
As per the available data, the AIBE 19 pass percentage stands at around 77.27%. If 2.35 lakh candidates appeared for AIBE 19, then the number of qualified candidates is around 1.77 lakhs.
AIBE is a qualifying exam. So all the candidates who clear the AIBE 20 cut-off will be considered to have cleared the bar exam. General and OBC candidates need 45% marks to clear AIBE, while SC/ST/PwD candidates need 40% marks.
