Amity University-Noida Law Admissions 2026
Among top 100 Universities Globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026
A total of 337 vacant seats have now been disclosed by National Law Universities (NLUs) as of June 16, 2026, despite five centralised counselling rounds conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. The latest update comes from NLU Jodhpur, which has notified 1 vacant BA LLB (Hons.) seat under the EWS category and invited fresh applications till June 30, 2026, 5:00 PM. Earlier, DBRANLU Sonepat announced 17 vacant BA LLB (Hons.) seats (15 All India category seats and 2 Haryana category seats), NLIU Bhopal notified 10 vacant seats, while MNLU Nagpur announced 41 vacant seats across its BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.) programmes.
Several NLUs have started independent admission processes to fill these CLAT 2026 vacant seats. However, the actual number of vacancies is likely to be much higher, as institutions including NUSRL Ranchi, NLU Assam, TNNLU Tiruchirappalli, CNLU Patna, NUALS Kochi, NLUT Agartala, RGNUL Punjab, and IIULER Goa have not publicly disclosed their vacant seat counts. Each NLU is conducting admissions independently and has prescribed separate eligibility conditions, application fees and deadlines.

A candidate with a valid CLAT 2026 score can apply for the NLU vacant seat rounds. However, universities can have specific conditions. Generally, the following candidates can apply:
The candidate must have appeared in CLAT 2026 and received a scorecard.
Candidates who participated in all five counselling rounds and were not allotted a seat are eligible.
Candidates who chose to exit counselling at any stage may also apply, subject to the NLU's notification.
Candidates who were allotted a seat in a lower-preference NLU but did not freeze it can apply to other NLUs with vacancies.
Category-based eligibility (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwD) follows standard reservation norms applicable at each NLU.
Each NLU sets its own conditions. Candidates must read the official notification carefully before applying.
Each NLU specifies its own document list; however, the following documents are commonly required across institutions:
CLAT 2026 scorecard and rank letter
Class 10 certificate and marksheet (for date of birth proof)
Class 12 certificate and marksheet
Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD), if applicable
Domicile certificate (where state quota seats are involved)
Transfer certificate or migration certificate
Passport-size photographs
Government-issued photo identity (Aadhaar, PAN, or Passport)
Proof of fee payment (application fee receipt)
Some NLUs also require a gap year affidavit or an undertaking regarding conduct. Candidates must keep scanned copies ready and cross-check the official notification to avoid rejection on technical grounds.
Each university runs its own independent admission process. Follow the steps below:
Click the direct NLU vacant seats Google Form link listed in the table above and verify eligibility conditions and seat availability.
Some universities use their own admission portals, while others direct candidates to SBI Collect or Google Form links. Pay the application fee as specified.
Upload required documents. Ensure all documents are legible, within the prescribed file size, and in the required format.
After the application deadline, NLUs release merit lists and allotment orders. Track merit lists on the university website regularly.
If allotted a seat, complete fee payment and physical document verification at the NLU campus within the specified window.

Every year, a number of seats remain vacant despite a structured counselling process. The trend is not unique to CLAT 2026. Multiple factors contribute to these vacancies:
Preference Upgradation During Counselling
The CLAT counselling process allows candidates to float their allotted seats and seek higher preferences in subsequent rounds. As candidates move to better-ranked NLUs, seats vacated in lower-preference institutions often remain difficult to fill in the later stages.
Demand for Top NLUs
A large number of aspirants prioritise a limited group of NLUs such as NLSIU Bengaluru, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata and NLU Jodhpur. Candidates who do not secure admission in these institutions sometimes choose alternative law schools instead of joining lower-preference NLUs.
Competition from Non-NLU Institutions
Many CLAT-qualified candidates simultaneously secure admission through AILET (for NLU Delhi), state law entrance examinations and private universities such as Symbiosis Law School, UPES, and Jindal Global Law School. Once candidates finalise admission elsewhere, they withdraw from the CLAT admission process, creating additional vacancies.
Category-Specific Vacancies
Some vacancies are category-specific. State domicile-reserved seats or certain reserved category seats can go unfilled due to a shortage of eligible candidates or low demand in specific categories.
Financial and Geographic Factors
Annual tuition fees, hostel charges, and the geographical location of an NLU influence candidate decisions more than applicants acknowledge. An NLU situated in a remote or challenging location, such as HPNLU Shimla, or institutions near sensitive border regions like NLUJA Guwahati, close to the Bangladesh border, can see candidates opt out even after receiving a seat allotment.
