This mandatory qualifying examination serves as the national gateway for law graduates to obtain the Certificate of Practice (CoP). According to the BCI rules and regulations, the Certificate of Practice is a mandatory legal prerequisite for practising law in Indian courts. As per the official AIBE notification, the AIBE XXI (21) examination is scheduled to be conducted on June 7, 2026.

More than 60% of the AIBE XXI (21) syllabus is concentrated within just seven core subjects. Constitutional Law, C.P.C., and the Cr.P.C./BNSS subjects carry the most weightage in the examination with 10 marks each. These are closely followed by the I.P.C./BNS, Evidence/BSA, Family Law, and Contract Law, each contributing 8 marks each.
By prioritising these high-weightage subject areas, candidates can strategically clear the 45% qualifying criteria (40% for reserved categories).
