ICFAI-LAW School BA-LLB / BBA-LLB Admissions 2025
Ranked 1 st among Top Law Schools of super Excellence in India - GHRDC | NAAC A+ Accredited | #36 by NIRF
The MH CET Law allotments for 3-year LLB courses released on August 08 show at least four law colleges admitting students at less than 1 percentile. The MH CET Law 2025 follows a merit-based admission system. It is combined with student preferences for participating colleges.
Top law colleges — GLC Mumbai, ILS Pune, DY Patil Law College, Ambedkar Law College, and some others have highly competitive admissions, attracting the top performing students. However, colleges located on the outskirts of major centres — in rural, semi-rural areas — struggled to fill seats and ended up accepting admissions at strikingly low percentiles.
At least 32 law colleges accepted less than the 10th percentile for admission to the LLB course under the OMS category. In the second and third rounds, followed by an institutional round of admissions, several other colleges are expected to find themselves in this bracket. The list of such colleges is given below.
Among these, four law colleges — Narayanrao Chavan Law College, Nanded, Dr. Ambedkar College Of Law, Nagsenvana, Aurangabad, Devaashish Law College, Arjunnagar, and Rajarshi Shahu College Of Law have closed admissions at below 1 percentile. Two of these have opening percentiles above the 99th, the remaining two opened admissions at approximately 91 and 92 percentiles. The stark contrast in opening and closing percentiles will eventually lead to a very uneven batch quality.

The MH CET law admission percentile dropping below the 10th percentile shows a general decline in competition and admission standards.
Approximately 75,000 candidates compete for 23000 seats in the MH CET law exam, resulting in three candidates per seat. In contrast, about 60,000 candidates appear in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for around 3700 seats; a much more competitive exam with 16 candidates per seat.
Once the MH CET law results are declared, 10-15,000 candidates opt out of counselling, leaving 55,000-58,000 candidates in counselling, further reducing the competition.
A closer examination of the counselling process and college preferences given by students shows most of the competition is concentrated in the top 40-50 law schools, where admission closes at the 80th-100th percentile. The remaining 150-160 law colleges are relatively less competitive.
Multiple reasons explain the low admission standards in MH CET Law. Starting with the Common Admission Policy (CAP) itself, which sets no cutoff percentile for participation in the admission process, meaning a non-zero CET percentile (earlier, non-zero CET score) is required for participation in counselling.
In comparison, the CLAT or AILET — the admission tests for National Law Universities (NLUs)- shortlist only five to six times the number of seats available in NLUs for the counselling process. The admissions in these colleges are tight and competitive.
209 colleges are participating in MH CET law, offering 23,210 seats, for 58,311 applicants who have registered for counselling this year. The competition comes down to 3 to 4 students competing for each seat. Last year, approximately 189 colleges participated in MH CET Law with a combined intake of 16,000.
The majority of MH CET Law colleges remain relatively less well-known. Many struggle with inadequate infrastructure, limited faculty strength, weak placement records, and a lack of standing within the legal community compared to the top institutions. Further, relocating from other states to the lower-ranked law colleges offers little incentive.
