The upcoming AIBE 22 exam will be held on November 29, 2026. The exam has 100 questions, with no negative marking. Practising previous years' papers helps candidates understand the AIBE exam pattern, how to manage time and identify weak subjects. Knowing last year’s cut-off will help candidates know what score to aim for. Candidates who clear the All India Bar Examination get the Certificate of Practice (CoP) from the BCI, which is needed to practise in Indian courts.
Candidates can follow these steps while practising AIBE past year question papers to check their preparation and identify areas that need more attention:
Attempt the full AIBE paper at once: Solving all 100 questions in one go helps candidates understand how much time each question takes and get used to the exam format.
Calculate and compare the scores with the qualifying marks: Give one mark for every correct answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The qualifying marks are 45% for general/OBC and 40% for SC/ST candidates.
Identify weak subjects: Check every wrong answer and note the subject. For example, if most mistakes are from Evidence or Criminal Procedure, spend more time revising these subjects.
Refer to the Bare Acts: For every wrong answer, read the relevant section and understand the legal principle. Since AIBE is an open-book exam, knowing where to find a provision quickly also saves time during the exam.
Practise more PYQs, sample papers and mock tests: Solve papers from different years and record the marks obtained. This helps candidates get familiar with the question types over the years and track the overall improvement.
AIBE Exam | Total Questions Evaluated | General/OBC Passing % | General/OBC Passing Marks | SC/ST Passing % | SC/ST Passing Marks |
AIBE 21 | 100 | 45% | 45 | 40% | 40 |
AIBE 20 | 95* | 45% | 42.75 | 40% | 38 |
AIBE 19 | 93* | 45% | 42 | 40% | 37 |
* Total evaluated questions were reduced after the withdrawal of certain questions from the final answer key.
The AIBE qualifying percentage has remained the same over the last three years: 45% for general/OBC candidates and 40% for SC/ST candidates. However, the actual passing marks have varied.
AIBE 21 had all 100 questions evaluated, requiring 45 marks for general/OBC candidates and 40 for SC/ST candidates. In AIBE 20, five questions were withdrawn, reducing the total to 95. AIBE 19 had seven questions withdrawn, bringing the total to 93.
As a result, the passing marks were lower in AIBE 20 and AIBE 19. A lower passing score does not necessarily mean the exam was easier; it may be due to fewer questions being evaluated.

Hey there,
No. If you are currently in the 5th semester of a 3-year LL.B., you generally cannot register for AIBE yet.
Under the current BCI rules, a 3-year LL.B. student must be in the final semester (6th semester) and have no backlogs from previous semesters to register for AIBE.
