Amity University, Noida Law Admissions 2025
Apply700+ Campus placements at top national and global law firms, corporates and judiciaries
The Common Law Admission Test is the toughest law entrance exam in India. Every year around 50,000 candidates appear for the entrance exam which offers around 4000 NLU seats. Given the tough competition, it is important that candidates score well in the exam. When it comes to CLAT 2025 passing marks, the Consortium of NLUs has not specified any passing marks for the exam. Candidates are given admissions based on their ranks in the CLAT exam. Usually the top ranks in the candidates are given admissions to NLUs based on the CLAT 2025 cutoff of each NLU. In this article we will discuss in detail about what is a good score in CLAT 2025 for NLU admission.
The CLAT exam was conducted in offline mode on December 1, 2024. The maximum marks in the CLAT exam are 120. There are no passing marks in CLAT 2025. The Consortium of NLUs has not specified any passing marks for the entrance exam. The NLU admissions through CLAT 2025 will be done based on the CLAT ranks. The CLAT 2025 counselling will be conducted in five rounds. Before each round of seat allotment, the consortium will release the CLAT 2025 merit list. Students will be allotted seats in NLUs based on their ranks, category and NLU preferences.
To understand their chances of admission, candidates must understand what marks will translate to what ranks. On a rough estimate, a CLAT score of above 90 marks will land up candidates a rank less than 1000. A detailed analysis of CLAT marks vs rank 2025 has been given below:
CLAT 2025 marks | CLAT 2025 rank |
98+ marks | 200 and above |
92+ marks | 500 and above |
90+ marks | 1000 and above |
88+ marks | 1500 and above |
86+ marks | 2000 and above |
85+ marks | 2500 and above |
83+ marks | 3000 and above |
82+ marks | 3500 and above |
80+ marks | 5000 and above |
77+ marks | 6000 and above |
74+ marks | 8000 and above |
72+ marks | 10000 and above |
A score of above 90 marks can be termed as a really good score in the CLAT 2025 exam. A score of above 90 marks can be almost taken as a definite guarantee for admission into an NLU. Given the difficulty level of the CLAT exam, a score of 90+ is a really good score. Candidates with a score of more than 90+ can expect their ranks under 1000. A score of above 80 marks will also open candidates’ chances for admission to some really good NLUs. The below given table denotes what is a good score in CLAT 2025 to get admission in top NLUs.
NLU Name | General | EWS | OBC | SC | ST | NRI |

Currently, CLAT is conducted in various cities across India, but as of now, there are no official test centers outside India, including in the UAE. Students residing abroad typically need to travel to India to appear for the exam. However, rules and centers may change in future, so I suggest keeping an eye on the official CLAT Consortium website, especially when the 2026 notification is released. If traveling to India is challenging, you can plan your trip in advance around the exam date. Also, for NRI or NRI-sponsored seats in Indian law colleges, some universities may have a different selection process that doesn’t require CLAT, so you can explore those options too.
Thank you,

For CLAT PG 2026, if you aim for top NLUs like NALSAR, NLSIU and WBNUJS, a score of around 75+ marks (rank within 100 ) is generally good for the general category
Cut-offs change every year, so try to score as high as possible for a better chance.
Hope it helps !
Hello Aspirant,
No, you cannot use EWS certificate issued to your father in your name. In CLAT, EWS certificate is to be issued in the name of a candidate on the basis of family income and assets even if you are a minor. Since you are under 18, the certificate will still have your details but it will take your family income (with your father) into consideration. You will need to apply for your own EWS certificate through the local authority pre counselling.
