CLAT 2026 was conducted on December 07. A total of 72,631 candidates appeared in CLAT UG, and 16,026 in CLAT PG. The CLAT results 2026 were published on December 16. This year, 25 national law universities, an off-campus of GNLU Gandhinagar in Silvassa and IIULER Goa are participating in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Around 3500-4000 seats in the 5-year LLB and close to 1600 seats will be offered in the LLM program. This year, around 23,000 students are expected to be invited for CLAT counselling. The invitations will be according to category, and the total number of seats under each category. For example, all India general category seats are 1573; against these, close to 13,000 students are likely to be invited for counselling.
Despite this, top 10 - 12 NLUs are expected to close all-India general category admissions at around AIR 1500, whereas overall admissions for the same category will close at around AIR 2800 to 3000. The SC, ST, OBC and domicile category admissions remain less predictable due to the non-uniform reservation offered by NLUs.
The general domicile category cutoffs for NLSIU have closed at around AIR 450 last year. Whereas, newer NLUs have seen a massive drop in the admission cut-offs, with GNLU Silvassa domicile seats closing at over AIR 30,000.
Roughly 1 in 3 students from the general category were invited for CLAT counselling last year, according to an RTI response received by Careers360. From a pool of a total of 39,285 in the general category (including general PWD, domicile and EWS), 12,952 candidates contested for NLU seats.
