The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh was established under Section 3 of the Advocates’ Act, 1961. The main work of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh is to enrol law graduates as advocates, regulate the legal practice of advocates, initiate action against erring advocates and take up welfare activities/schemes for the benefit of advocates. At present, more than 1,00,000 advocates are enrolled in the Uttar Pradesh State Bar Council.
The overall score in the AIBE 20 Examination 2025 is given below:
To become an advocate in India, a law graduate has to pass the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). According to the AIBE eligibility criteria, a candidate has to be enrolled with a state bar council before appearing for the AIBE exam. After clearing AIBE, the candidate will be issued a Certificate of Practice (COP). It should be noted that the AIBE exam is mandatory for candidates who pursued their law degree from 2009-10 onwards.
The AIBE is a post-enrolment exam. This means any candidates who want to practice law in Uttar Pradesh need to fill out the registration form for the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and enrol with it before appearing for the AIBE exam. The provisional enrolment is valid for two years on an undertaking that the candidate will pass the exam within 2 years of the date of enrollment.
The Bar Council of India stated that the right to practice would be valid only for two years under a provisional enrolment. However, the candidates can continue to appear for the All India Bar Examination as many times after the provisional enrolment. The result, therefore, is that any candidate who is provisionally enrolled is allowed to appear for the AIBE exam not just for two years beyond but for any number of times till he or she passes the exam. The date of reckoning seniority would be considered from the date of the provisional enrolment.
The eligibility criteria for the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh are mentioned below:
In case of an offline application, the candidates have to download the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh enrolment form. They have to fill in the details and submit the application form in person to the office along with the documents and application fee.
To successfully enrol in the State Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, a candidate must pay the prescribed application fee. The table given below provides the fee details.
Particulars | Fees |
Application fee for General candidates | Rs. 750 |
Application fee for SC/ST candidates | Rs. 125 |
After the successful submission of the application, the candidates would be informed regarding the date and time of appearing before the enrolment committee for an interview and oath-taking ceremony. Candidates would be required to present before the enrolment committee either physically or through the Zoom platform. The candidate must appear in full uniform while presenting before the committee.
