Visit the official CLAT website and log in to the candidate account using the application number and password.
Find and click on the ‘Submit Grievance’ button or link available in the result or candidate dashboard section.
Clearly state the nature of your grievance related to the CLAT result. This could be about discrepancies in score, rank, or any other issue.
Describe the grievance in detail and upload any supporting documents or evidence that justify the complaint.
Submit a declaration form confirming the grievance’s authenticity.
Finally, click the ‘Submit’ button to file the grievance.
In CLAT, many candidates can score the same marks. To rank these candidates fairly, the Consortium of National Law Universities uses a clear tie-breaker rule. This rule decides the order of candidates with equal scores.
Tie-breaker step | Criteria |
1. Legal aptitude marks | Higher marks in the legal aptitude section |
2. Age | Older candidate preferred |
3. Computerised draw | Random draw if ties persist |
This tie-breaker rule gives priority first to candidates with higher legal aptitude marks. If the tie continues, older candidates are given preference. If both these criteria are equal, a computerised random draw is used to break the tie.
The Consortium will conduct CLAT counselling soon after the CLAT results are announced. The entire process is conducted online through the official Consortium of NLUs website. Candidates who qualify must register for counselling by paying the required fee and uploading the necessary documents. They then need to fill and lock their preferred NLUs in order of choice. Seat allotment happens in multiple rounds based on rank and preferences. Candidates must confirm their seats by paying the university fees. The CLAT counselling process 2026 offers options to freeze, float, or exit seats as per candidate preferences.
