CLAT Application Date:01 Aug' 25 - 07 Nov' 25
As the fate of the CLAT 2025 results remains uncertain due to the ongoing court cases, candidates are unsure about their admission chances at their preferred NLUs. Candidates had to fill in their NLU preferences at the time of CLAT 2025 counselling registration. Now that the Consortium of National Law Universities has been taken to court for inaccuracies in the CLAT 2025 result, will candidates get another chance to submit their NLU preference as per the revised results? It is important to note that candidates can secure a seat in only that NLU which is in their NLU preference list. In this article, let’s discuss the possibilities for candidates.
In CLAT 2025, the candidates had the benefit of filling in their NLU preferences as per their performance in the Common Law Admission Test to maximise their chances of admission. This was a change from last year, where candidates had to fill their preferences at the time of filling up the application form.
However, if the CLAT 2025 results are revised, then the NLU preferences filled by the candidates will not be in sync with their rank. It can adversely affect their admission chances and rob them of the benefit of hindsight, something which was lacking in CLAT 2024 as well.

While hearing the petitions against the CLAT 2025 results, the courts have commented that no deserving candidates should be denied a rightful place in the merit list due to mistakes in the CLAT answer key and result.
It can be inferred from this that if the results are revised, then candidates may be given a chance to alter their NLU preferences as per the revised result, so they are not denied their rightful place on the merit list of NLUs in which they deserve a seat.
The Consortium of National Law Univerisites has not informed anything yet about providing candidates with another opportunity to fill in their NLU preferences. The Consortium of NLUs has challenged the earlier verdict delivered by the Delhi HC on December 20 and later upheld in the December 24 hearing, in which two answers were modified.
You may also check :
Candidates must provide their NLU preferences through their CLAT login
At least 15 NLU preferences must be submitted
There is no maximum limit on the number of NLU preferences
To maximise their chances of admission, candidates must provide maximum preferences
Candidates can get admission only into NLUs that are part of their preferences.
If candidates get their first preferred NLU, then they have to freeze their seat by paying the confirmation fee.
In case the candidate does not get the first preferred NLU, they can select the float option and pay the confirmation fee to ensure their chances of admission into their top preferred NLU remains open.
On Question asked by student community
Hello dear candidate,
Yes, you are right UGC rules do not allow two regular full time courses simultaneously.
But for CLAT or NLU admission they only check if your 12th certificate is valid and is from a recognized board, not if you did another course along with it.
The BCI also do not reject candidate for this reason.
Thank you.
Hello,
If you are from Delhi and appearing for CLAT, then you come under the General (All India) category, as CLAT reservation is based on the domicile of NLUs, and Delhi does not have a National Law University under CLAT (NLU Delhi conducts AILET separately). So, you can apply for CLAT through All India Quota, and if you don’t get a seat in NLUs. You can apply through CLAT, AILET, or private law colleges like Amity, Symbiosis, or IPU for admission.
Keep both CLAT and AILET options open to maximize your chances.
Hope you understand.
Hello,
Since you are in class 11 and targeting CLAT 2027, you have enough time to prepare without coaching. First, understand the CLAT pattern – it has English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Start with basics and read daily to improve vocabulary and comprehension.
Best books to start:
Word Power Made Easy – Norman Lewis
High School English Grammar & Composition – Wren & Martin
Legal Aptitude for CLAT – A.P. Bhardwaj
A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning – R.S. Aggarwal
Quantitative Aptitude – R.S. Aggarwal
Manorama Yearbook or Lucent’s GK for current affairs
Read newspapers like The Hindu daily, practice mock tests regularly, and revise current affairs every month. With consistent practice and reading, you can easily prepare for CLAT 2027 along with JEE.
Hope it helps !
Hello,
No, you are not elligible to appear for the CLAT exam while in Class 11, as the elligiblity criteria require you to be in or have completed Class 12 . However, you can start preparing for the exam now.
You can get the CLAT Exam practice tests by following this link:
Hello,
Yes, if a student is from Telangana, they can apply for a reserved seat in CLAT only if they belong to a reserved category such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or PwD, as per the rules of CLAT and the participating National Law Universities (NLUs).
However, please note:
CLAT does not have a separate “Telangana state quota.”
Reservation is given based on category , not on the state, except in some NLUs that offer domicile (state) reservation for their own state students.
So, if you are from Telangana, you can:
Apply under your category reservation (like SC/ST/OBC/EWS) .
And you may get Telangana domicile reservation only in those NLUs that are located in Telangana (for example, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad ).
Hope it helps !
