The Bar Council of India (BCI) conducted AIBE 19 on December 22, 2024. The AIBE 19 answer key is expected to be released tentatively 2-3 days after the exam. The AIBE 19 (XIX) exam was conducted in offline mode. Candidates who clear the All India Bar Examination will be awarded a Certificate of Practice. The CoP is a mandatory certificate to practise law in India. The Bar Council of India exam has questions on basic legal concepts taught in the LLB courses. BCI has revised the AIBE 19 syllabus with three new law topics being added namely the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. BCI has also added a new AIBE exam centre at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The AIBE 19 registrations are already closed. The AIBE XIX (19) registration fee was Rs. 3,500 for general category candidates and Rs. 2,500 for SC/ST candidates.
Law graduates with a 3-year LLB or a 5-year LLB degree from a recognised institute can appear for AIBE 19. However, as per the revised AIBE 19 eligibility criteria, final year law students with no backlogs and candidates who do not have an enrolment certificate are also eligible to register for AIBE 19. Earlier AIBE was a post-enrolment exam, so candidates needed to complete their enrolment with a state bar council before applying for the All India Bar Council Exam. With the revised AIBE eligibility, candidates can complete AIBE registration without completing enrolment.
The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is no longer conducted in open-book mode. However, candidates can carry the bare acts without notes or with short notes, without comments to their exam hall. General category candidates have to clear the AIBE cutoff 2024 by securing at least 45% marks whereas SC/ST candidates are required to obtain at least 40% marks. AIBE XIX (19) 2024 is a qualifying exam. So, every candiate who scores the minimum AIBE cut-off marks in the All India Bar Examination will be considered to have cleared the exam.
The Bar Council of India has also issued the AIBE 18 CoP on August 27, 2024. Candidates can collect the AIBE 18 Certificate of Practice from their respective state bar council in which they are enrolled. BCI had also earlier released figures for AIBE 18 in response to an RTI query describing the number of candidates who appeared for the previous AIBE 18 exam. The pass percentage in AIBE 18 is 48.36%.
