Why NLU cut off?

NLU Cut off is the method of elimination. With ever-increasing competition amongst the law aspirants, the National Law Universities (NLUs) intend to shortlist the candidates based on marks. This is why NLU cut offs are needed. Each NLU has its own admission cutoff based on which they prepare a merit list of candidates qualifying the cutoff for the NLU.

How is NLU cutoff calculated?

The cutoff for NLU admissions is calculated by the examination committee. The determining factors for NLU cut off are the number of candidates appearing in the law exam, difficulty level of the examination, number of seats in the law college and the previous year’s cut off trend.

The NLU cut off, somewhat, is also affected by the choice of NLUs and programmes as filled by the candidate during the admission or application process.

Take for reference, if any candidate prefers ‘Z’ programme in ‘Y’ college and his/ her corresponding marks is ‘X’ among the others ‘W’ applicants for the programme in the college. Then depending on the seats offered in the college for the programme, the college admission committee will set a benchmark score (or rank, as the case may be). This score is regarded as cut off marks for the NLU. Those candidates scoring more than the set cut off marks (or the cut off rank as per the case) will be given admissions in the National Law University.
