CLAT is just around the corner. While there are five subjects in CLAT, general knowledge and current affairs are one of the most crucial sections carrying 25% of weightage. Previous trends suggest that the CLAT current affairs and general knowledge section is generally framed from the national and international events of four to five months.

The question paper may include 3-4 comprehension passages in this section, each drawn from newspaper articles and other journalistic sources. Questions will be around the central topic, but students will be required to demonstrate some prior knowledge of the events. This also means that questions will be mostly factual, and those good with the factual general knowledge may not be required to read the passages to answer the questions.

South Africa hosted the G20 summit in Johannesburg in November this year. The G20 summit focused on sustainable development, climate change, and other environmental issues. On the sidelines of the Summit, India signed a tech-trilateral involving Canada and Australia.

María Corina Machado was given the Nobel Peace Prize this year. She is a Venezuelan politician and activist. She is also one of the most prominent leaders of the opposition to the administrations of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro, whose election to the presidency was controversial. In this context, it is crucial to know that two prominent Indian personalities — Mother Teresa and Kailash Satyarthi have received the Nobel Peace Prize.

  1. FIDE Chess Championship

The International Chess Federation or World Chess Federation, also known as FIDE (French acronym), organised the World Chess Championship in Goa, India, this year. Around 22 Indian players participated this year, the highest from India so far in Chess history.

Javokhir Sindarov, the Uzbek Chess player, secured the title this year by defeating Wei Yi of China. At 19, Javokhir Sindarov is the youngest chess player to win the World Cup title.

Before this, an Indian chess player, Gukesh, won the Chess World Cup in 2024. Another Indian chess player, Divya Deshmukh, won the Women's Chess World Cup in 2025.

  1. Japan’s first female prime minister - Sanae Takachi

Sanae Takaichi became the first woman Prime Minister of Japan in 2025. She is also the President of the Liberal Democratic Party. Japan’s Parliament is called the ‘National Diet’. The Diet nominates the Prime Minister from the House of Representatives. The PM is then formally appointed by the emperor.

The Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations are ongoing, with the US announcing a 28-point peace deal. In this context, it is important to know when the war started, the NATO alliance, and India’s position in the Russia-Ukraine war.
