Candidates who appeared in CLAT 2026 can explore a range of private law colleges that accept the examination for admission to LLB and LLM courses. While National Law Universities are often seen as the benchmark for legal education, several private law colleges also offer rigorous law programmes. Candidates who did not secure a seat at the NLU and are considering a law college must know that choosing a private law school doesn't mean settling for less; it broadens your opportunities and legal exposure.
At present, there are 60+ private law colleges accepting CLAT scores. Some of the top private colleges accepting CLAT 2026 scores are UPES Dehradun, Alliance School of Law, LPU Phagwara, Nirma University, Galgotias University, SOA National Institute of Law, and more.

With around 88,657 students who appeared for CLAT 2026, the competition for NLU seats is now highly competitive. Realistically, only a small number of students can actually get into the NLUs due to the limited number of seats offered at these CLAT NLUs. Candidates can instead apply for admission into private law colleges that accept the CLAT scores. These colleges offer equally academic legal education. Additionally, the fee for the private law colleges is generally lower than that of NLUs.
