Last year, the Consortium of NLUs constituted an Expert Committee to review changes in the CLAT 2027 exam. The committee invited suggestions from candidates and all stakeholders regarding the conduct of the exam and the quality of questions. More than nine months have passed since the constitution of the committee; there has not been any update from the consortium about the changes approved and suggested by the said committee.
With only four months left for the CLAT exam, students are already halfway through their preparation. Any major changes at this point of preparation would only lead to more chaos and uncertainty. Careers360 spoke to CLAT aspirants to discuss their views on the delay in CLAT 2027 reforms, the consortium’s lack of communication on the matter, and how they are preparing for the upcoming session.
The advisory board framed four terms of reference to make reforms to the CLAT 2027 pattern.

The structure of the paper
The syllabus for the Entrance Examination

While there is no clarification or update from the Consortium of NLUs regarding reforms in the CLAT 2027 exam, aspirants are still preparing with the existing syllabus. With around five months left for CLAT 2027, aspirants across the country find themselves in a dilemma - follow the existing syllabus or brace for changes that may or may not come. The silence of the consortium has left students, coaching institutes, and parents to navigate the uncertainty largely on their own.
For one CLAT 2027 aspirant from Bangalore, who wished to remain anonymous, the lack of communication from the Consortium is a growing source of stress. "I honestly expected the consortium to release the changes earlier since we do need time to prepare for the exam. It’s already July, and we have around five months for CLAT 2027, and that scares me, because for now, I’m confident that I can do well, judging by the way my preparation is going, but a sudden, drastic change would negatively impact me and my fellow aspirants.
The aspirant also pointed to a broader communication gap between the Consortium and the student community. "I’ve also seen a lot of people email the Consortium and ask them for updates, but they don’t really get responses. That seems irresponsible to me cause this exam might have a huge effect on a lot of our futures."
While the picture is still unclear, some coaching institutes have been preparing for the reforms announcements. Most of the aspirants say they are simply continuing with their existing preparation until there's some update from the consortium. "Sticking to the current syllabus for now. My coaching didn't say much yet," one student shared. "A teacher did mention that if they change the syllabus, they'll take extra classes and prep us", said another aspirant.
Interestingly, some aspirants say their coaching centres are already putting in extra effort into their prep material, keeping in mind the reform angle. One student mentioned they were handed an LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law) prep book alongside their regular CLAT material. This indicates that institutes may be preparing students for a more UK-style reasoning and comprehension-heavy format, in case reforms push CLAT in that direction.
Perhaps the most balanced perspective came from a CLAT 2027 aspirant, who said, "They give surprises every year on the day of the paper itself, so I'm mentally prepared not to panic and just continue preparing with the current syllabus."
The statement resonates with most candidates’ preparation strategies. The majority of students are preparing with the existing syllabus and also keeping a mental space for any last-minute changes in the pattern.
All in all, these voices paint a picture of CLAT aspirants caught between preparing diligently and quietly hoping that the Consortium shares an official update on the CLAT 2027 reforms. The Consortium has not shared any updates on the CLAT 2027 reforms despite repeated attempts to contact them. Careers360 also reached out to the Consortium regarding a clarification on the issue, the response to which is still awaited. With only a few months left for the CLAT 2027 exam, students say it will be difficult to adapt to a major revamp of the exam pattern. Until an official update arrives, "prepare for the known, stay ready for the unknown" should be the official mantra for CLAT 2027 aspirants.
