CLAT Application Date:01 Aug' 25 - 07 Nov' 25
The Delhi HC ordered the Consortium of NLUs to publish the revised result in the CLAT 2025 UG judgement issued on April 23, 2025. The HC order will cause a significant change in candidates final score in the CLAT 2025 revised result. This change in the result will also alter a candidate’s admission chances at different NLUs. A major question confronting the candidates is whether the consortium will allow them to change their NLU preference list. Read on to get details about what is likely to happen with the candidate’s NLU preferences.
Submitting the NLU preference list is an essential part of the CLAT 2025 admission process. A candidate can secure admission at only those NLUs which are part of their preferences. A minimum of 15 universities must be provided in the NLU preferences. There is no maximum limit.
In CLAT 2025, candidates were required to submit their NLU preferences at the time of CLAT counselling registration.
A detailed breakdown of revised result shows that a candidate's score in the Common Law Admission Test will fluctuate widely in the best case and the worst case scenario. The Delhi HC has ordered revision in the answers to 4 questions. Consequently, a candidate’s score can increase by 4 marks or decrease by up to 2.25 marks which will cause a huge shift in the candidate’s rank in the CLAT merit list.
Q.no | Marks Added | Marks Deducted |
5 | +1.25 marks for option C | -1.25 marks for option D |
77 | +0.25 marks for any option other than B | -1 marks if chosen option B |
115 |
| No marks deducted |
116 |
| - |
Total Marks | 4 marks | 2.25 marks |
In CLAT 2025 candidates got the opportunity to submit their NLU preferences after the result was declared. Candidates had the benefit of submitting the list as per their CLAT 2025 score to maximise their chances of admission.
As seen in the table above, there is likely to be a huge gap between a candidate’s old CLAT score and the revised score that will affect their NLU chances. The Consortium of NLUs has accepted the Delhi HC verdict and agreed to change the result. This necessitates that candidates must be allowed to submit fresh NLU preferences that are in alignment with the result and provide all the candidates a fair chance of admission at an NLU they deserve.
Candidates can submit the NLU preference list in the order of preference through their login. A minimum of 15 preferences must be submitted. There is no maximum limit. Given below are the steps to provide the NLU preferences -
Login to CLAT 2025 account
Click on the counselling registration option.
Click on Update preferences
Select the NLUs in the order of preference
Submit the preferences
On Question asked by student community
Hello dear candidate,
Yes, you are right UGC rules do not allow two regular full time courses simultaneously.
But for CLAT or NLU admission they only check if your 12th certificate is valid and is from a recognized board, not if you did another course along with it.
The BCI also do not reject candidate for this reason.
Thank you.
Hello,
If you are from Delhi and appearing for CLAT, then you come under the General (All India) category, as CLAT reservation is based on the domicile of NLUs, and Delhi does not have a National Law University under CLAT (NLU Delhi conducts AILET separately). So, you can apply for CLAT through All India Quota, and if you don’t get a seat in NLUs. You can apply through CLAT, AILET, or private law colleges like Amity, Symbiosis, or IPU for admission.
Keep both CLAT and AILET options open to maximize your chances.
Hope you understand.
Hello,
Since you are in class 11 and targeting CLAT 2027, you have enough time to prepare without coaching. First, understand the CLAT pattern – it has English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Start with basics and read daily to improve vocabulary and comprehension.
Best books to start:
Word Power Made Easy – Norman Lewis
High School English Grammar & Composition – Wren & Martin
Legal Aptitude for CLAT – A.P. Bhardwaj
A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning – R.S. Aggarwal
Quantitative Aptitude – R.S. Aggarwal
Manorama Yearbook or Lucent’s GK for current affairs
Read newspapers like The Hindu daily, practice mock tests regularly, and revise current affairs every month. With consistent practice and reading, you can easily prepare for CLAT 2027 along with JEE.
Hope it helps !
Hello,
No, you are not elligible to appear for the CLAT exam while in Class 11, as the elligiblity criteria require you to be in or have completed Class 12 . However, you can start preparing for the exam now.
You can get the CLAT Exam practice tests by following this link:
Hello,
Yes, if a student is from Telangana, they can apply for a reserved seat in CLAT only if they belong to a reserved category such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or PwD, as per the rules of CLAT and the participating National Law Universities (NLUs).
However, please note:
CLAT does not have a separate “Telangana state quota.”
Reservation is given based on category , not on the state, except in some NLUs that offer domicile (state) reservation for their own state students.
So, if you are from Telangana, you can:
Apply under your category reservation (like SC/ST/OBC/EWS) .
And you may get Telangana domicile reservation only in those NLUs that are located in Telangana (for example, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad ).
Hope it helps !
