The Bar Council of India has released the AIBE 19 results on March 21. In AIBE 19, final-year law students without any backlogs were allowed to appear for the exam as per the revised AIBE eligibility criteria following a Supreme Court order passed in September 2024. Will obtaining AIBE 19 passing marks be enough for final-year law students to secure a Certificate of Practice (CoP)? Let’s find out in this article, what are the requirements and implications of the AIBE 19 exam results for final-year law students.
BCI earlier released the AIBE 19 final answer key on March 6 in which 7 questions have been withdrawn and answers to three questions have been changed. The All India Bar Examination result will be prepared as per the final answer key.
The AIBE 19 passing marks for final year law students will be the same as every other candidate who attempted the exam. Given below are the approximate revised passing marks for the All India Bar Examination for various categories after 7 questions were withdrawn from the final answer key. The total marks in AIBE 19 is now 93 marks instead of 100 marks. Consequently, the AIBE cut-off has also gone down.

For final-year law students, merely obtaining the AIBE passing marks will not be enough to clear AIBE and obtain a Certificate of Practice. The Bar Council of India has notified that final-year law students must also clear their law degree to be eligible for COP. The AIBE exam result for final-year students is only provisional.
The BCI notification in this regard states that “the result of the All India Bar Examination will be subject to the candidate passing all the components required under the course of study of the University/College. This would be subject to the All India Bar Examination results being valid for a specified time.”
Once the AIBE results are declared and in case final year law students have secured the passing marks then their next area of focus should be on clearing the remaining law degree exams. Their success in the AIBE will be completely dependent on whether they also clear the final year examinations without any backlogs.
