AIBE Application Date:29 Sep' 25 - 28 Oct' 25
Following a Supreme Court order in September 2024, the Bar Council of India allowed final-year law students without any backlogs to register and appear for AIBE 19. This change has allowed final-year students to become advocates in a relatively quicker time than before.
The earlier AIBE exam eligibility criteria allowed only law graduates to appear for the All India Bar Examination. BCI conducted AIBE 19 on December 22. The AIBE 19 result will be declared tentatively in February 2025. Now, the question arises can final-year law students become advocates if they clear AIBE? Read the article to get all the details about the revised eligibility norms for AIBE and final year students, becoming advocates.
Candidates who clear the All India Bar Examination will be awarded a Certificate of Practice (CoP). The CoP is a mandatory document to practise law in India. As AIBE is a qualifying exam, candidates only have to score the minimum AIBE passing marks to clear it.
Yes, final-year law students and students who are awaiting their results are eligible to register and appear for AIBE. Given below are the educational qualifications that are accepted under the revised eligibility criteria for AIBE 19. Candidates must ensure they have passed their law degree from a law school that is approved by the BCI.
Final Semester Law Students (3-year or 5-year LL.B) without backlogs.
Law students who have appeared for final semester exams and have no backlogs.
Law students who have passed their law exams and are awaiting to be awarded the degree certificate
Law Graduates who have completed their LL.B but have not obtained their degree or not enrolled with any State Bar Council
Law graduates who have not enrolled in any state bar council
Final semester law students who do not have backlogs must submit their self-attested scanned copies of the mark sheets up to the previous semester. (up to 5th sem for 3-year LLB and up to 9th sem for 5-year LLB)
Candidates who have passed LLB but awaiting results must submit self-attested scanned copies of all the marks sheets. (Sem 1 to 6 for 3-year LLB, and Sem 1 to 10 for 5-year LLB)
Final-year students or students awaiting their law degree but not yet enrolled in a state bar council must submit an undertaking in the prescribed format.
No, final-year students cannot become advocates after clearing AIBE. The result of AIBE is only provisional for final-year students. They have to clear their final semester law exams after clearing AIBE to become an advocate.
The BCI is yet to frame specific rules for final-year law students on becoming advocates after clearing AIBE. However, at the time the SC jugement had passed, it had said that, “the result of the All India Bar Examination would be subject to the person passing all the components required under the course of study of the University/College. This would be subject to the All India Bar Examination results being valid for a specified time”.
It can be thus, inferred that final year law students must focus equally on preparing for AIBE as well as studying for their law exams to become advocates after clearing AIBE.
On Question asked by student community
Hello, Here is a clear and simple breakdown of who is eligible for the AIBE 20 (All India Bar Examination).
To be eligible for AIBE 20, you essentially need to have completed two main steps after your schooling:
In short, the only people who can apply for AIBE 20 are those who have already graduated with a law degree and have also officially registered themselves as advocates with a State Bar Council.
Hello dear candidate,

Whether or not signing your full name instead of your signature on the AIBE 19 answer booklet's self-declaration form would result in disqualification is uncertain. It depends on the specific rules and regulations of the AIBE examination and how strictly they are enforced, you can also check the official website or contact the concerned authorities.
Hello,
If you forgot to mention the booklet code in your AIBE 2024 application, follow these steps:
Act promptly to avoid complications.
Hope it helps !
If you forgot to mention your booklet set code and other details on your AIBE 2024 exam OMR sheet while filling the rest of the information correctly, your exam may not be evaluated properly, and you could potentially face a delay in your results or even have your exam invalidated; however, there might still be a chance to rectify the situation.
Since AIBE exam is OMR based paper and is checked by using a specialized scanner called an "OMR scanner" which reads the darkened bubbles on the sheet, interpreting them as answers, and then comparing them to the answer key to generate a score - essentially, the machine "reads" the marks made on the paper to determine the correct answers, all through a process called Optical Mark Recognition (OMR). If it doesn't recognise your booklet code there are chances that it could not process your answer on code basis.
Reach out to the Bar Council of India (BCI) as soon as possible through their official website or helpline number. Explain the situation clearly, mentioning that you filled in all the details correctly except for the booklet set code and other missing information.
If possible, try to attach a scanned copy of your OMR sheet where you can highlight the correctly filled details and the missing booklet set code.
Hope it is helpful to you!!!
