AIBE Admit Card Date:15 Nov' 25 - 30 Nov' 25
The Bar Council of India declared the AIBE 19 result on March 21, 2025. As per the AIBE result statistics, around 23% of the candidates who appeared in AIBE 19 have failed. The total number of candidates who failed in the All India Bar Examination is 52251. The candidates who did not clear the exam this time will get the next chance when the AIBE 20 notification comes. There are a few things to understand before applying for the bar exam. In this article, let’s understand what the failed candidates in AIBE 19 should keep in mind before they complete AIBE 20 registration. BCI will tentatively conduct AIBE 20 in December 2025.
BCI had conducted AIBE 19 on December 22, 2024 in offline mode. Candidates who clear the bar exam will be awarded the AIBE COP to practise law in India.
A candidate is considered to have failed in AIBE if they do not secure the AIBE cut-off marks, which are the minimum passing marks. Candidates from the general and OBC categories must score at least 45% marks, and candidates from the SC and ST categories must score at least 40% marks to pass the exam.
In the AIBE 19 result, the passing marks were 42 out of 93 for general/OBC and 37 out of 93 for SC/ST due to the withdrawal of 7 questions in the AIBE 19 final answer key. The revision in the answer key reduced the passing marks which were earlier 45 out of 100 and 40 out of 100 for general/OBC and SC/ST candidates respectively.
Given below are important points that candidates who failed in AIBE 19 should know before they register for AIBE 20
Number of attempts: There is no limit on the number of attempts in AIBE. So, a candidate who failed in a previous attempt can appear for the bar exam any number of times till they clear the exam.
Age limit: There is no upper age limit to appear for AIBE. Candidates of any age can submit the AIBE 20 application form.
Enrolment Certificate Requirement: A candidate who failed in AIBE 19 and did not have an enrolment certificate can still register for AIBE 20, as enrollment with a State Bar Council is not required to appear for the exam, as per the revised AIBE eligibility criteria. However, candidates who passed AIBE 19 but did not have an enrollment certificate are required to submit it so that their result is not withheld.
Enrolment Validity for Failed Candidates: Candidates who had enrolled in the State Bar Council but failed in AIBE need need enrol again. Their enrolment will remain valid as far as AIBE 20 registration and the declaration of the result is concerned
Final Year Law Students: As per the revised eligibility criteria, final year law students without backlogs were allowed to appear for AIBE. The AIBE result of such candidates is subject to their clearing the graduation exams. Any final year law student who failed in AIBE must make sure they clear backlogs if any from their graduation exams before completing AIBE 20 registration.

No, a person cannot practice law in India without passing the All-India Bar Examination (AIBE). After completing an LLB degree from a recognized university, a law graduate must enroll with a State Bar Council and must clear the AIBE exam conducted by the Bar Council of India. Only after passing the exam, the advocate receives a Certificate of Practice , which allows him or her to practice law in any court in India.
So, without clearing AIBE, one cannot legally appear or argue in court.
Tip - Prepare well and be a successful lawyer.
